English Lessons
At International Summer School learning English is fun!
By the time students reach 16 years of age, the majority already have some experience in English. The University Hall of Residence course aims to improve students' knowledge of spoken and written English and to increasingly challenge and improve their skills. Fluency in English is a very important asset in today's world and emphasis is placed upon communication. Our experienced and dedicated staff are there to assist and motivate students.
Every student is tested (both written and oral) on arrival to ensure they are placed in a class appropriate to their level. To book this course, students must have reached at least intermediate level in English.
Tuition takes place for twenty hours per week in small classes of maximum 12 students. This enables students to receive intensive and personal attention. On one afternoon per week, lessons often take place off campus at a local place of interest, to enhance learning in the classroom. These lessons will usually be devoted to literature, politics, culture or debate.
For each course, the number of students who speak the same language is restricted. Therefore, English is the only common language and everyone is encouraged to speak it at all times.
All students' work is carefully monitored by teachers throughout the course and a certificate is awarded at the end of their stay at International Summer School. Some students have been entered by International Summer School for the world recognised TOEIC examination, which can be sat on 30 July 2010. If your son or daughter is interested in sitting this exam next year we would be happy to register them. An examination fee would be chargeable. International Summer School staff will transport your son or daughter to the examination centre and collect them when they are finished. For more information on the TOEIC examination including prices please do not hesitate to contact us.
Our aim is to promote an atmosphere where students are open minded, friendly, inquisitive, well mannered and considerate. With these qualities they will enjoy taking full advantage of the international friendship opportunities offered.
English at Home - During their final lessons all students receive advice from their teachers on how they can continue to improve their English when they return home. They also receive resources to enable them to do this.
When we return your child to you at the end of their stay, we hope they will feel enriched by their experience with us and will look forward to returning to meet friends made at International Summer School the following year, as so many do.
