Sport and Games, Excursions, Activities and Entertainment
The sports facilities available at University Hall of Residence are first class. There is an excellent indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, sports hall, gymnasium and sports fields. On occasions, students also have access to the sports facilities at University Hall of Residence's sister centre, Moira House (only 5 minutes walk away).
A sports and social programme, organised by the Social Organiser, is on offer during afternoons and evenings for students. Some of the sports and activities on offer include the following: Swimming, Table Tennis, Soccer, Tennis, Basketball, Rounders (Baseball), Cricket, Volleyball, Water Polo, Badminton, Pier and Beach Walk, Barbeque, Downland Walk, Cinema Trip, Ten Pin Bowling, Cycling/Mountain Biking.
On some occasions these activities are optional - and students, if they prefer, may enjoy unsupervised visits in pairs or small groups to local towns. Eastbourne and Brighton offer excellent shopping, restaurants, cinemas and discos. There are also various local museums and cultural events.
Any unsupervised evening excursion has a non-negotiable curfew of midnight. NB Parents of students aged 16 and 17 years will be asked to give their consent if they wish their son/daughter to participate in unsupervised excursions. A space on the booking form is provided for this purpose.
Excursions take place every Friday to London and on Sundays to nearby towns on the South Coast of England. Our staff always accompany students on these trips. Trips in the past have included visits to the Tower of London, London Eye, River Thames Boat Trip, British Museum, Science Museum, Tate Modern, The South Bank, London Theatres, Windsor Castle, London Zoo, Madame Tussauds, Brighton, The Cuckmere Valley (where students have the opportunity to enjoy canoeing/raft building and mountain biking), Rye and Camber Sands, Portsmouth and tour of the HMS Victory.
Internet access is provided at certain times throughout the week and is included in the course fee.
