Accommodation & Welfare
The bedrooms at the University are all single rooms with en-suite shower rooms. Duvet covers and hand towels are provided. All students are given a room key on arrival, which only gives access to their own room and flatlet (6/8 rooms). NB No other person will be able to enter anyone else's room without being invited, apart from staff members, who may need to access a room in an emergency. Girls' and boys' accommodation will be in separate flatlets. Each flatlet has a communal kitchen (with fridge/freezer, toaster and kettle) where students can make drinks and light snacks. Milk, tea, coffee, squash, bread, butter, jam etc. are provided in all kitchens and are included in the course fee. The kitchen is also a place where students can relax and unwind. Our staff are also accommodated within these flatlets to ensure ample staff supervision.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are taken in the excellent University Dining Hall. Meals are substantial and the menus are varied and healthy, always including a vegetarian option. Fruit and salad are always available. If you would like to see a sample menu, just let us know. We offer a student laundry service once a week, which is included in the course fee. All students also have access to the on-site Laundromat, with its numerous washing machines and tumble driers, if they prefer to do their own personal washing.
Qualified First-Aid staff are on site at all times and any medical problems can be dealt with at the local Doctor's surgery in Eastbourne. There is an excellent hospital in Eastbourne for more serious cases. Our staff always accompany students to the Doctor's surgery or hospital.
Passports, tickets and pocket money can be kept secure by the Course Director on arrival. Alternatively, students may prefer to keep their possessions locked in their rooms (at their own risk).
The welfare and safety of our students is paramount to us and our experienced and well trained staff will look after and support your son or daughter throughout their stay at the University Hall of Residence. However, while we take our responsibilities extremely seriously, we do expect full co-operation from all students. Please note that girls must not enter boys' accommodation and boys must not enter girls' accommodation under any circumstances. Any student caught breaking this rule will be immediately expelled (sent home). The use of illegal substances, the consumption of alcohol, on campus, and smoking in the dormitories, are also expressly forbidden. We welcome students of all creeds and cultures as our aim is to create a summer school which can truly be described as International. |
