Sport and Games, Excursions, Activities and Entertainment
The sports and leisure facilities are available a short distance from the Eastbourne Centre. There is an excellent indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, indoor sports hall, gymnasium, dance studio, cookery room, art room and sports fields.
A sports and social programme, organised by the Social Organiser, is on offer during afternoons and evenings for students. The sports and activities are various and can include the following: Swimming, Soccer, Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey, Trampolining, Ultimate Frisbee, Dance, Yoga, Pilates, Cookery, Jewellery Making, Arts and Crafts. Evening activities could include: Quiz, Drama Nights, Talent Shows, Nightclub in Brighton, Skating, Karaoke, Beach barbecues, fun games. During the course, there will be evening outings to the local cinema and to ten-pin bowling - which are included in the course fee.
Students will be able to opt-out of either the afternoon or evening activity and, instead, enjoy unsupervised excursions. NB Parents of students aged 16 and 17 years will be asked to give their consent if they wish their son/daughter to participate in unsupervised excursions. A space on the booking form is provided for this purpose.
There will be full-day excursions (usually one mid-week and one at the week-end) to various tourist attractions in London and the South of England. These will include all entry fees. Trips in Summer 2012 included:
- Student Choice - London Museums and Art Galleries
- Brighton Pier, lanes, beach and tour of the Pavillion
- London theatre to see Les Miserables and Covent Garden
- Thorpe Park Theme Park
- London Eye, Thames Boat Cruise, sightseeing and shopping
- Tour of Battle Abbey, Battle Town and shopping
- Student choice in London
Optional Sports Tuition
It is possible to book professional coaching in certain sports. This tuition takes place in small groups and is available to students of all abilities. This is an optional extra and not compulsory. All tuition is provided by professional and qualified specialist teachers or coaches. Equipment is provided.
Sailing/Windsurfing/Canoeing2 hour sessions are available once, twice or three afternoons a week. At Spray Sports Sailing Club on Eastbourne seafront.
Tennis2 hours on 3 afternoons per week.
Golf2 hours on 3 afternoons per week. With resident Golf Professional at local Golf Club.
Horse Riding1 hour sessions are available once, twice or three times per week. At local Equestrian Centre.
Cycling/Mountain Biking2 hour session available one afternoon per week. At the Cuckmere Valley/Friston Forest - local beauty spot.
NB Students should only book optional sports coaching if they are really interested in a particular sport, as they will be missing the all-inclusive sports and activity programme provided.
