English Lessons
By the time students reach 16 years of age, the majority already have some experience in English. The Eastbourne Centre course aims to improve students' knowledge of spoken and written English and to increasingly challenge and improve their skills. Fluency in English is a very important asset in today's world and emphasis is placed upon communication. Our experienced and dedicated staff are there to assist and motivate students.
Every student is tested (both written and oral) on arrival to ensure they are placed in a class appropriate to their level. To gain maximum benefit from this course, students must have reached at least intermediate level in English. Tuition takes place for 20 hours per week in classes of maximum 14 students. This enables students to receive intensive and personal attention. On one afternoon per week, lessons sometimes take place off campus at a local place of interest, to enhance learning in the classroom. These lessons will usually be devoted to literature, politics, culture or debate. Extra English lessons (on a 1 to 1 or 1 to 2 basis) are also available outside the normal timetable (at extra cost). Lessons take place in the various seminar rooms within the Centre, which are ideal for teaching and presentation purposes. They are light and airy - some having wonderful views over the English Channel. Comfortable seating and purpose-designed furniture ensure students can learn in comfortable and modern surroundings. All teaching rooms have flexible teaching walls comprising of white board, flipchart, OHP projector and screen, television and video sets. Multi media projection, interactive whiteboards and portable hearing induction loops (for those who are hard of hearing) are also available. IELTS Exam: In 2012 we will be offering students the chance to take an intensive IELTS course and sit the exam. Students would have to stay for the whole 4 week course and would sit the exam on 21 July. Please contact us for more information if you are interested in this option. All students' work is carefully monitored by teachers throughout the course and progress checks take place at the end of each week. All students receive a certificate and a report from their English teacher at the end of their stay. Students can also be entered for the world-recognised TOEIC examination, which can be sat during the 4th week of the course. If your son/daughter is interested in taking this examination, we would be happy to register them. Please contact us on booking for further details. |
